Jobs in the Beauty Industry
If you are looking for jobs in the beauty industry, there are several things you can do to increase your chances of success in this competitive field.
While there are many places you can look for beauty jobs, there are also lots of other people wanting to work in this field. So how do you get ahead in the hunt for beauty jobs?
The obvious route is to get trained and qualified. Many employers will insist on appropriate training - the industry standard is an NVQ level 2 or higher in Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing. This will cover all the basic skills that you need, and lets an employer know that you are not only trained, but also committed to this as a career.
The work is varied, and will involve you in a variety of treatments designed to enhance a client's appearance or well-being. This can include treatments to the face, body and hair such as hair removal, nail treatments and facials.
If you work in a smaller salon, you may also be asked to help out with the other jobs that need doing around the salon - this could include helping out at reception, answering the telephone, checking and ordering supplies, handling money, and keeping the salon clean.
These are all valuable skills that will increase your customer service skills and give you an idea of how the business is run - great if you ultimately want to run your own business.
