Hotel Management Jobs
Long a popular career choice, hotel management jobs come in all shapes and sizes. Hotel management jobs can be found in small regional hotels and large multinational chains, in city centers and towns, on the coast or in the countryside.
In smaller hotels, there will typically be one manager, but in larger places, hotel management jobs can include positions such as night manager, reservations manager, and other positions such as conference manager or hospitality positions.
This type of position requires a variety of skills - the smaller the facility, the more different tasks you will be required to perform. At larger places, you will be overseeing several other managers, each of whom is responsible for their own areas.
However, there are certain skills that you will need in any size or type of facility:
- Customer Service:
In this position you will be the public persona of the hotel. That means meeting and greeting customers, and of course dealing with any complaints or special requests.
- Personnel:
Wherever you work you will have a range of employees working under you. This can include cleaning staff, waiters and waitresses, receptionists, and catering staff such as cooks. In larger places each of these will be a separate department, with the different area managers reporting to you.
